May is Community Action Month, dedicated to recognizing the success of the national Community Action Network. GLEAMNS Human Resources Commission, Inc. is a member of this network, which consists of 1,000-plus Community Action Agencies working across the country to help low-income individuals and families. To celebrate Community Action and raise awareness in the community, GLEAMNS held its annual Community Action Day on Friday, May 18, 2018. This one-day event took place at the Brewer Recreation Center in Greenwood and displayed the various services and resources offered throughout the communities. The GLEAMNS Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Department hosted the event.
 

Highlights from the event include an appearance from Mayor Welborn Adams of Greenwood and attendees "walking it out" during the event's cakewalk. Mayor Adams had proclaimed May 2018 as Community Action Month in recognition of the hard work and dedication of GLEAMNS and all Community Action Agencies. As part of the event's program, he read the Community Action Month Proclamation to the attendees present. Throughout the day, attendees were able to network, enjoy a meal, participate in games, and win door prizes. Twenty exhibitors were in attendance for Community Action Day, and those who could not attend provided door prizes as well as advertisement for the event.
 

The event had a great turnout from the public, with over 150 people in attendance. Community Action Day was truly a success, as it brought people together to celebrate and support everyone's efforts in making the community a better place to live.
